In late July 2026 the Insetting Consortium, led by Norinchukin Bank and comprising food manufacturers, distributors and agricultural groups, announced a partnership with Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF). The collaboration aims to create a simple calculation tool that will enable firms to collect primary Scope 3 greenhouse‑gas data directly from domestic ingredient producers, improving measurement and supporting emission‑reduction plans across the food supply chain. A follow‑up report six days later confirmed that the consortium would employ MAFF’s newly developed “GHG Simple Calculation Tool” to gather first‑hand emissions data from farmers and other upstream producers. The July 26 announcement reiterated that the consortium, now described as led by the Agricultural and Forestry Central Bank, will use the tool to provide reliable baseline figures for Japan’s broader decarbonisation targets and emerging disclosure requirements such as the SSBJ guidelines, EU CSRD/ESRS and CDP. No further relevant developments have been reported since these announcements.
