In late July 2026, Japanese railway operators began rolling out new travel‑pass products and promotional schemes. JR Shikoku teamed with the Tosa Kuroshio Railway on a Park & Ride campaign in Kochi prefecture, offering discounted or free parking to train‑ticket buyers and a chance to win travel vouchers. Simultaneously, JR East launched the Chiba 2‑Day Pass, a two‑day unlimited‑travel ticket covering JR lines, private railways, buses and the Tokyo Bay Ferry, with added perks such as free bike rentals and station‑area discounts, aimed at both domestic and foreign tourists. Building on this push toward flexible ticketing, JR East announced plans for a Mobile Suica commuter pass focused on the Rinkai Line. The digital ticket, slated for an autumn 2027 rollout, will be stored on smartphones and cover travel between Shin‑Kiba and Osaki stations, extending the company’s cashless‑travel strategy beyond existing inter‑operator passes. Expanding its digital engagement, JR East and View Card Co., Ltd. announced promotional campaigns for Mobile Suica starting in September 2026. These include a 30th-anniversary ‘Detective Conan’ campaign where users can obtain limited edition card faces. Additionally, View Card is launching a campaign offering 8 million JRE POINTs to users who register a View Card to Mobile Suica and use specific features, such as auto-charge or purchasing new commuter passes. The company also noted the upcoming launch of the ‘teppay’ code payment service within the Mobile Suica app.
