The Japanese ramen and café landscape continues to evolve through new openings, seasonal offerings, and concept shifts. In late June 2026, Menba Tadosho Shoten opened in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward, specializing in miso ramen using five regional varieties. In Akashi, Ramen Mugendai launched on August 1, featuring pork-based soy sauce and shellfish-based salt ramen. Further expansion is expected in the Toward River station area with the autumn opening of Nebaa, a shop run by a former Suzukiya apprentice. In Okayama, the conversion of the former Yakiniku Horumon Manpuku site into Daichan Ramen is progressing, with signage progressing. Signage for Chuka Soba Soba, Tsuke Chuka, and Abura Soba already visible. is visible, though an exact opening date has not been announced. New developments in Ehime Prefecture include the July 3 opening of Hormon Yaki Umasugi in Matsuyama, a low-cost eatery offering meat-skewer sets for ¥100 per stick. Additionally, Jan-men Matsuyama is scheduled to open in mid-September 2026 at the Fuji Grand Shigen shopping center. This venue will serve the regional specialty Jan-men, a spicy soup featuring hormone, chives, and egg. Seasonal and pop-up trends remain prominent. Hiroshima’s TOCOTON1 introduced a limited-time cold chicken-bone broth with Kawane yuzu, while a Shin Ramen pop-up at Enoshima’s Katase beach offered exclusive items like “Spicy Cream Ramen.” Promotional activities and structural changes also mark the period. The Ikakuya chain held an “Ikakuya Day” on July 31, offering standard ramen for 760 yen at most locations. In Yokosuka, the long-standing Shinbuta branch is scheduled to close on August 31 to reopen in September as “Yokosuka Otsuya,” a new concept focusing on ramen and fried rice. Additionally, a new crepe and espresso café is under construction in Kawagoe, Saitama, near the historic Time Bell.
