Mid‑2026 saw Japanese golfers prominently featured in U.S. events. By late July, world‑ranked No. 3 Hideki Matsuyama and rising PGA Tour player Ryosuke Kusanari were in the final stage of selection for the 2024 Presidents Cup, to be hosted at Medinah Country Club in September. If both make the twelve‑man World Team, it will be the first joint Japanese appearance since 1998; the roster will be set from the top six players on 31 August, with captain Jeff O'Gulby adding six more members. In early August, Matsuyama led a four‑player Japanese contingent at the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship. On day two at Sedgefield Country Club, Matsuyama posted a 69 to finish six under par, dropping to 26th place, six strokes behind the leader. Kensho Hirata also shot 69 to make the cut, while Takumi Kanaya and Ryo Kyujo missed the cut. As the FedExCup playoffs commenced at TPC Southwind in Tennessee, Matsuyama opened his 13th consecutive playoff appearance with a 4-under 66. His round, which included five consecutive birdies, placed him in 6th position, one stroke behind the leaders. Ryo Hisatsune also participated in the playoffs, making his debut with a 1-under par opening round to sit in 26th place. Following his strong start, Matsuyama dropped to 14th place after the second round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship. After starting the day in 6th, he carded a 70 with three birdies and three bogeys, finishing seven strokes behind leader Scottie Scheffler. Matsuyama noted that while there were good moments, there were also “many shortcomings,” expressing a desire to adjust his play for the upcoming weekend rounds.
