High school track and field athletes in the Tokyo and Chiba regions have achieved various successes in recent newcomer athletics championships. In Chiba, Yachiyo Shoin Gakuen athletes secured multiple qualifying spots for the prefectural tournament through performances in the 1500m, 5000m, and various steeplechase events. Following these results, subsequent competitions saw continued success for the school, including second and third-place finishes in the men’s 1500m and a second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, which earned a spot in the Kanto championship. However, typhoon conditions led to the cancellation of the final day of the Chiba competition, impacting several 5000m races. In Tokyo, students from Johoku Gakuen also saw notable results at the 78th Tokyo Metropolitan High School Newcomer Athletics Championship. Notable performances included a seventh-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase and qualification for the Kanto Selection Newcomer Athletics Championship in the 5000m, alongside personal bests in the long jump, 110m hurdles, and 5000m. Recent regional rookie competitions have seen further achievements despite weather disruptions caused by Typhoon 25. In the Awa region, Momoka Tomari and Leo Hashimoto of Awa High School both secured second-place finishes in the girls' and boys' pole vault, respectively, while Kanon Kojima of Awa Takushin High School qualified for the Kanto competition in the girls' high jump. At the Tokyo Metropolitan High School Rookie Athletics Championships held at Komazawa Olympic Park Athletics Stadium, Kokugakuin High School athletes competed amidst extreme heat and heavy rain. Ken Nakamura set a new school record in the boys' 400m hurdles with a time of 59.05 seconds, while other students achieved personal bests in sprinting, jumping, and relay events.
