Japanese professional baseball roster changes

Japanese professional baseball organizations have undergone various roster adjustments and player departures.

Initial reports highlighted contract terminations driven by behavioral and compliance issues. In the Yakult Swallows, pitcher Reito Taguchi was released following injury concerns and issues involving fans and social media. Rakuten Eagles player Naoki Hinato was also released following a scandal involving social media messages regarding borrowing money from minors. Additionally, the Toyo Carp faced scrutiny over allegations of “zombie tobacco” use among several players, leading the club to implement AI to manage fan complaints.

Subsequent reports focused on standard end-of-season departures and non-renewals. The Hanshin Tigers notified outfielders Kan Toyota and Kairi Shimada that their contracts would not be renewed for the 2027 season, while relief pitcher Daury Moretta returned to his home country. In the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, outfielder Cooper Hummel returned to the United States. The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters also announced they would not renew catcher Koki Matsuoka’s contract for the 2027 season.
