The summer of 2026 has seen a surge of new dining concepts across Japan. Following July’s rooftop barbecue in Ikebukuro and various yakitori and Italian openings, the trend expanded into specialty soups and noodles. In late July, Wang Fu Ji opened a customizable mala soup shop in Utsunomiya, while Udon Sonchou began serving Kagawa-imported noodles in Yokosuka on 19 July. August openings and expansions have continued the momentum. The private-room izakaya Waraiemon is scheduled to open at Okayama Station Front on 10 August, followed by Yoigurasu Iyasaka in Kobe’s Rokkomichi area on 19 August. The noodle chain Sukesan Udon is also expanding, with a new branch in Oizumi, Gunma, opening 20 August—transitioning to 24-hour service on 27 August—and a new Okudo branch in Tokyo’s Katsushika Ward slated for 7 September. Upcoming schedules include the Yokohama Iekei ramen chain Ichikakuya opening in Toda on 13 August, and Menya Hachishoten scheduled for September in Chikushino City. Other previously announced projects include the August opening of 鐘庵 in Fuji, Gyoza no Ohsho in mid-October near Aeon Mall Kawaguchi, and Sankoki Udon Makichan in Nishisugamo in early September. Additionally, a new yakiniku restaurant, ‘Yakiniku Hakuryu’, is scheduled to open in the Omotecho district of Kita-ku, Okayama City, on 14 September, occupying the site previously held by ‘Omotecho Nikuyakidokoro Kuroba’.
