Preparations for the Shuka Sho horse race in Kyoto have intensified as the autumn G1 series resumes. Initial previews identified Monroe Walk as a dominant favorite, alongside other contenders such as Gallavoire and Dream Core. As the race approaches, focus has shifted to a specific storyline regarding the progeny of the sire Kizuna. Despite Kizuna being a leading sire in Japan, his offspring have reportedly faced a drought in the Triple Crown for fillies, with zero wins in 47 attempts across the Oka Sho, Yushun Himba, and Shuka Sho. Monroe Walk, one of four Kizuna-sired horses expected to be prominent in the field, is being watched to see if it can break this perceived jinx. Monroe Walk successfully secured a victory in the Shuka Sho G1 at Kyoto Racecourse, completing an undefeated five-race winning streak. The three-year-old filly, trained by Hiroyuki Uemura, finished the 2000-meter turf race in 1:56.1, tying the course record. Jockey Keita Tosaki claimed his first Shuka Sho title in five years. In a competitive field that lacked the Oka Sho and Oaks winners, Gallaborg finished second and Dream Core finished third. Monroe Walk’s performance marks the first time since Fine Motion in 2002 that a filly has achieved a five-race winning streak including a G1 victory. The win also breaks the statistical trend regarding the offspring of Kizuna, who had previously struggled to secure a victory in the Triple Crown for fillies.
