Argentine President Javier Milei is pursuing a strategy to establish himself as a leader of the Latin American right. Initially focused on regional positioning, his diplomatic efforts have expanded to include high-level international engagements, such as upcoming trips to the United States to address the United Nations General Assembly and the Hispanic community. Domestically, Milei is taking a direct role in economic communication. He is scheduled to personally present the 2027 Budget project to the Argentine Congress on September 15, a move that breaks the tradition of delegating such presentations to the Minister of Economy. Milei intends to leverage his background as an economist and former legislator to communicate the administration’s economic priorities directly. The upcoming budget is expected to prioritize maintaining fiscal balance as a cornerstone of the government’s macroeconomic strategy as the country approaches the 2027 electoral cycle. In preparation for the budget debate, the administration is actively negotiating with provincial governors and various legislative blocks, including the PRO and dialoguist groups. The government is reportedly considering concessions to ‘federalize’ the Central Bank’s board to secure support for critical reforms, such as changes to the Central Bank Charter and the expansion of the Inocencia Fiscal regime. The officialist bloc is also working to build coalitions to advance economic initiatives such as the Super RIGI and tax reforms. On August 20, Milei will participate in the 23rd edition of the Council of the Americas in Buenos Aires alongside key cabinet members, including Economy Minister Luis Caputo, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, and Minister Federico Sturzenegger. The event will bring together public and private sector leaders to discuss the country’s political and economic outlook.
