Journalist Javier Ruiz has announced his move to the new television channel La Séptima, where he will serve as editorial director and host the prime-time news analysis program, ‘La última hora’. Ruiz stated his program aims to provide context and fact-checking, describing the ambition of the space as becoming ‘the supreme court of truth’. Following his departure from the public broadcaster RTVE, Ruiz criticized the RTVE News Council, alleging that the Council performed analyses of his programs without watching them and selectively highlighted critiques of the People's Party while omitting his critiques of the PSOE. Ruiz characterized his exit from RTVE as a negotiated agreement. La Séptima is scheduled to begin broadcasting on November 5. The channel will focus on live programming and current affairs with a progressive editorial line. The daily lineup includes ‘El Pulso’ with Verónica Sanz, ‘En línea’ with Sarah Santaolalla, ‘Sobre la mesa’ with Rocío Delgado, and ‘La diana’ with Noor Ben Yessef, alongside Ruiz’s ‘La última hora’. The launch of La Séptima coincides with a major reorganization of Spain’s Digital Terrestrial Television (TDT) network following the National Technical Plan. This transition involves the implementation of the DVB-T2 standard, enabling Ultra High Definition (UHD) broadcasts for major channels including La 1, La 2, Antena 3, and Telecinco, as well as the launch of Clan UHD. While UHD will coexist with existing High Definition (HD) signals, several channels, including Clan, Boing, Be Mad, Atreseries, and DKISS, will change frequencies. Viewers are advised to perform an automatic channel rescan to ensure continued access, though users of services like Movistar Plus, Orange TV, or Vodafone TV do not need to manually rescan as operators manage these changes internally. Spain has initiated this technical shift, which allows major channels to offer UHD content alongside existing HD signals.
