Musician Jay Weinberg has disclosed that prior legal restrictions prevented him from releasing or sharing collaborative musical works, a situation he described as having a significant emotional impact on his creative process. Following his departure from the band Slipknot in 2023, Weinberg engaged in various projects, including touring with Suicidal ~~Tendencies~~ Tendencies, recording with Fuming Mouth, and forming Portraits of an Apparition. He noted that while he continued to write music privately, a lack of ‘legal ability’ to collaborate meant he could not fulfill the sharing aspect of music-making, stating that a part of his creative self felt as though it was ‘dying.’ Weinberg recently achieved a sense of closure by releasing ‘Drown Fountain,’ a collaboration with the duo Softcult. The track was an idea he originally conceived in 2013, and he expressed that being able to finally release such long-held material provided emotional gratification.
