A massive fire broke out in the densely populated Mandala coastal area of North Jayapura District, Papua, on a Monday afternoon. The blaze spread rapidly through residential settlements, impacting approximately 550 households and roughly 2,000 people. Emergency response teams from the police, military, and fire services worked to control the flames, with the Jayapura City Government establishing emergency tents for displaced residents. In the aftermath, community aid efforts emerged, including assistance provided by students and faculty from SMK Kesehatan Jayapura. Concurrently, law enforcement launched an investigation into thefts occurring during the disaster. Police Chief Kombes Pol Fredrickus W. A. Maclarimboen confirmed that eight suspects were named in connection with missing items reported at Jl Samudera Dok V Bawah, with authorities seizing five refrigerators as evidence. Relief operations have since expanded to include large-scale cleanup and humanitarian assistance. In Jayapura, hundreds of personnel from Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, including units from Lantamal X and various battalions, were deployed to the Kampung Nelayan complex in Mandala to assist residents in clearing debris from fire sites and distributing aid. Similar relief efforts were noted in the region, such as Bhayangkari Daerah Papua Tengah distributing aid packages containing clothing, blankets, and food to fire victims in Paniai Regency.
