Jazz digital and 5G infrastructure expansion in VEON expand Pakistan digital infrastructure
Jazz and its parent company VEON are expanding digital and telecommunications infrastructure in Pakistan, with a specific focus on 5G rollout and digital finance. Jazz has reached a milestone of 1,000 live 5G sites across 10 major cities following spectrum acquisitions. The company aims to activate 2,500 sites by the end of 2026. In the fintech sector, its subsidiary JazzCash has surpassed 62 million registered customers, processing approximately $70 billion in Gross Transaction Value during the year ending June 30, 2026. VEON leadership has reaffirmed recently increased its planned investment in Pakistan to $1.5 billion over the next three years, up from a previous commitment of $1 billion. Announced by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at the SDGs Investment Fair 2026, the additional $500 million is intended to expand connectivity, modernize digital infrastructure, and accelerate technology-led services, including banking, insurance, and artificial intelligence. Minister Aurangzeb noted that this increased investment signals renewed momentum in foreign direct investment and growing international confidence in Pakistan’s economic stability. VEON leadership continues to view Pakistan as a “strategic growth market,” emphasizing the need for continued investment and supportive regulatory policies to translate 4G and 5G infrastructure into improved service quality and digital inclusion for its 71 million subscribers.
