Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has established several program receiving records. During a 59-3 victory over Kent State, Smith surpassed the previous career receiving yardage mark of 2,898 yards, set by Michael Jenkins, reaching a total of 2,958 yards. In a subsequent game against Illinois, Smith became the first player in Ohio State history to reach 3,000 career receiving yards. During that performance, he recorded three receiving touchdowns, moving into second place on the program’s career touchdown list. In a later matchup against Illinois, where the Buckeyes won 42-19, Smith delivered a historic performance by recording 12 receptions for 217 yards and four touchdowns. This performance allowed him to tie the program record for the most receiving touchdowns in a single game. During this same game, quarterback Julian Sayin completed 27 of 36 passes for 367 yards and four touchdowns, all of which were caught by Smith. With 34 career scores following the Illinois game, Smith is now only one touchdown behind Chris Olave on the program’s all-time receiving touchdowns list. Former Buckeyes standout Jaxon Smith-Njigba commented on Smith’s exceptional talent, comparing the impact and expectations surrounding him to that of LeBron James, noting that Smith represents a “unique level of talent” within the program's history.
