Jesse Huerta has announced a hiatus from the Mexican musical duo Jesse & Joy after more than 20 years to prioritize his mental health, physical well-being, and family. He clarified that “My break is from Jesse & Joy, not from music,” while simultaneously introducing a solo project, ‘Jesse and the Supernovas’, which he maintains was planned months in advance. On September 24, 2026, the announcement sparked controversy, with critics suggesting the personal reasons were a pretext for a planned career shift. Joy Huerta expressed shock, stating she learned of the decision only 20 minutes before the public announcement. Despite this, the duo’s manager, Sergio Gabriel, confirmed that the professional bond remains intact for existing obligations. Jesse is expected to fulfill group commitments until December 5, 2026, after which Joy will continue with solo performances, including a show at the Auditorio Nacional on December 6. On October 7, 2026, Huerta officially launched his independent project with the release of ‘Génesis’, a primarily instrumental debut single under the alias ‘Sombrero’. This project, released through his newly founded Nebulosa Records, explores cinematic arrangements and futuristic aesthetics. Huerta subsequently announced his debut solo album, ‘SOMBRERO’, which features the single ‘Interestelar’. While Jesse pursues his solo work, the duo’s ‘El Despecho Tour’ will continue with international dates in Brazil, Chile, and Argentina scheduled through 2026. Jesse has cited a previous nervous breakdown as a factor in his decision to respect his physical and emotional limits. On October 22, 2026, Joy Huerta addressed rumors regarding the split, denying speculations of family conflict or infidelity involving her husband and Jesse. She described the family as “untouchable” and emphasized that while communication has been limited during their individual processes, their sibling relationship remains strong.
