In early July 2026 JetZero began assembling its full‑size blended‑wing demonstrator, Jet1, at Scaled Composites’ Mojave facility. Funded by a $235 million U.S. Air Force contract and powered by Pratt & Whitney PW2000 engines, the program targets a 200‑250‑seat market and promises fuel‑burn reductions of up to 50 %. A partnership with Japan Airlines to develop the Z4 – a 250‑seat, 9,300 km‑range midsize aircraft – was announced later that month. At the Farnborough Airshow on 21 July, Gulf Air of Bahrain signed a letter of intent for Z4 aircraft, becoming the first airline outside the United States to commit. Gulf Air will receive preferential delivery positions for the 250‑seat, roughly 5,000‑nautical‑mile‑range Z4, which JetZero says can cut fuel consumption by up to half. The airline expects lower cost‑per‑seat‑mile and expanded Europe‑Asia service. Japan Airlines has now joined the programme as a development partner, contributing to cabin layout, ground handling, maintenance and operational planning. JetZero has also secured letters of intent from United, Alaska and Delta Airlines. A potential U.S. Export‑Import Bank commitment of up to $3 billion will help finance a new Greensboro manufacturing complex of about 743,000 sq ft, projected to create roughly 14,500 jobs. Jet1’s first flight is targeted for the end of 2027, with Z4 commercial entry anticipated in the early 2030s. By the end of July, JetZero confirmed it had secured the full $3 billion Export‑Import Bank loan and reported interest from roughly 20 carriers. United Airlines announced a conditional order for up to 200 Z4s, while Delta and Alaska reaffirmed their letters of intent. The Z4’s cabin concept, described as a lounge‑style interior without traditional windows, includes four aisles and external waiting areas beside the restrooms. JetZero says the aircraft will enter service in 2030, aligning with its early‑2030s commercial entry target.
