Princess Firyal Irshaid of Jordan is involved in a legal proceeding at Southwark Crown Court in London regarding the theft of her jewelry collection from her Belgravia residence. The theft is alleged to have occurred in 2020 while the Princess was away due to pandemic restrictions. The Princess discovered the theft in November 2020 after being alerted by a jeweler that her custom-made engagement ring was featured on an auction catalogue cover. Subsequent investigations revealed other pieces had been sold through Canterbury Auction Galleries, often at prices significantly lower than their actual value. Prosecutors have charged the Princess’s former housekeeper, Maria Virgelina Taborda Henao, with the thefts, alleging she used her authorized access to the home to steal the items. The prosecution further alleges that the defendant’s nephew, Julian Ramirez, acted as a conduit for selling the stolen property. During the trial, evidence was presented indicating that earrings valued at over £28,000 were sold at auction for only £400. The stolen items reportedly include a bespoke sapphire and diamond ring, a ruby ring, and a pair of earrings. Taborda Henao, who had worked for the Princess for 11 years, denies the charges. In her testimony, she stated she had worked as a cleaner for approximately 35 households since moving to Britain in the late 1980s. In recent testimony, the Princess stated she left her engagement ring behind when she departed her luxury apartment in haste during the March 2020 lockdowns. Prosecutors further allege that the defendant’s nephew transferred approximately 21,000 euros to the Princess’s account between June 2019 and November 2020 before allegedly fleeing to Colombia while on probation. The trial remains ongoing.
