Jharkhand women's hockey players Asian Games victory

Overview

Following the Indian women’s hockey team’s 1-0 victory over China in the Asian Games final—the country’s first gold medal in the event in 44 years—four players from Jharkhand received significant recognition.

On Sunday, captain Salima Tete and teammates Nikki Pradhan, Beauty Dungdung, and Deepika Soreng were met with a celebratory homecoming at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi. Supporters, officials, and family members gathered to welcome the athletes with drums, garlands, and bouquets.

Subsequently, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met with the players at his residential office. Soren honored the athletes with traditional stoles and sweets, describing the achievement as a “matter of pride for both the state and the nation.”

Further recognition followed at the South Eastern Railway (SER) headquarters in Kolkata. Captain Salima Tete, Nikki Pradhan, and Deepika Soreng—all Jharkhand natives and SER employees—were felicitated for their historic performance. The victory in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, not only secured the gold medal but also ensured the team’s qualification for the Los Angeles Olympics. During the ceremony, SER General Manager Anil Kumar Jain praised the players’ dedication and teamwork, affirming the organization’s ongoing support for internationally acclaimed sportspersons.
