Procon-JP’s weekly monitoring continues to reveal sharp price swings across a wide range of goods in João Pessoa. In early August 2026, a survey of 110 fuel stations showed a slight decrease in some fuel costs. The lowest cash price for regular gasoline fell to R$ 6.21 per liter, while the highest remained at R$ 6.90. Ethanol’s lowest cash price dropped to R$ 4.27 per liter, with a high of R$ 4.99. Most stations kept gasoline prices stable, with 22 reducing them and only four increasing them. Diesel and GNV prices remained largely unchanged. Significant price discrepancies persist in hygiene and cleaning products. A survey of 90 items across 13 supermarkets highlighted that 5-liter bottles of Omo liquid soap varied by R$ 26.09 between retailers. Other notable variations were observed in Ala powder soap, Tixan Ipê liquid soap, and various Oral B and Colgate toothpaste brands. Data from mid-August extends these findings to meat and poultry products. A survey of 89 items across 23 supermarkets and open-air markets conducted on August 13 revealed substantial beef price variations. Beef fillet showed a difference of R$ 50.80 per kilo, with prices ranging from R$ 65.00 to R$ 115.80. National picanha recorded a 99.98% variation, while chicken fillet prices varied by 100%, ranging from R$ 10.00 to R$ 20.00. Additionally, 12-unit trays of red eggs showed fluctuations between R$ 8.00 and R$ 9.00. By August 18, Procon-JP expanded its monitoring to the basic food basket, surveying 92 products across 13 establishments. Significant fluctuations were noted in staples: Camponesa 750g whole powdered milk showed a R$ 9.49 difference (ranging from R$ 28.99 to R$ 38.48), Piracanjuba 200g butter varied by 66.72%, Vitamilho 500g couscous flour by 64.75%, and Meu Beiju parboiled rice by 63.54%. In late August, monitoring expanded to construction materials.
