Jordan has initiated pilot operations for its second phase of inter-governorate public transportation development. In early August 2026, the Land Transport Regulatory Authority began a trial intercity Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service. This phase included two main lines: Amman–Tafila, operated by Roabi Tafila, and Amman–Ma'an, operated by Rboue Ma'an. The service utilized various bus sizes with specific operating hours and headways to connect the South Complex with the Tafila and Ma'an complexes. Following this, the Land Transport Regulatory Commission launched additional pilot bus lines connecting Mafraq to Zarqa and Mafraq to Jerash. These services utilize modern vehicles equipped with smart transportation systems, such as CCTV surveillance, electronic tracking, electronic payment methods, and free Wi-Fi. The Director General Riyadh Al-Kharabsheh stated the project aims to provide safe and organized transport, with the Commission is monitoring performance, passenger demand, performance and service quality during these trial periods passenger demand to prepare for a transition to permanent operations. By late August, the Commission addressed service gaps in the Mafraq Governorate where certain areas were underserved due to high operating costs for individual operators. To ensure accessibility without increasing costs for citizens, the Commission is considering the deployment of smaller 14-passenger buses. A nationwide program has allocated 5 million dinars for the current year and another 5 million dinars for 2025 to facilitate such transitions. In Mafraq, corrective measures have already included converting medium-sized vehicles on the Mafraq-Al-Manshiya and Mafraq-Al-Dajniya routes into smaller service vehicles to better accommodate passenger volumes.
