Jorge Asjana David has been elected as the new rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). In an election with a 97% participation rate, Asjana David received 2,013 votes, or 66% of the valid votes cast, defeating opponent Radhamés Silverio. In addition to his election, Asjana David has received professional recognition for his long-standing career. The Colegio Médico Dominicano (CMD) honored him as a ‘Maestro de la Medicina Dominicana’ during its 135th anniversary, citing his work as a surgeon, professor, and former president of the Colegio Dominicano de Cirujanos. This top award recognizes his 50-year career in surgery, teaching, and his contributions to medical ethics and professional training. He has also maintained his teaching commitments in Surgical Semiology and Head and Neck Anatomy.
