The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) has held various activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of founder Juan Bosch. In La Vega, the Juan Bosch Foundation conducted ceremonies to promote his democratic and ethical legacy. In Puerto Plata, former President Danilo Medina presided over the swearing-in of more than 4,000 new members through the “Vuelta a Casa” program. During this assembly, Medina expressed support for Walter Musa as a potential senatorial candidate for the province. Significant political realignments continue as the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), led by Leonel Fernández, experiences growth. In Santiago, Fernández led the swearing-in of dozens of political leaders, including former PLD president Julio Betances and former mayoral candidate Juan Miguel Fernández. Betances reported that 67 of the 89 intermediate and base committee presidents from the PLD in that district have transitioned to the FP. Additionally, former PRM official Juan Francisco Acosta has joined the FP, criticizing the government for the rising costs of living and vehicle registration fees. Fernández has intensified his criticism of the ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) government, labeling it “medularmente ineficiente.” He specifically cited repeated delays regarding the Santiago monorriel, noting that opening dates have been announced nine times without the project becoming operational. Additionally, Fernández raised concerns regarding electricity subsidies, healthcare shortages, and the management of rice imports under international trade agreements. As parties restructure ahead of the 2028 general elections, Roberto Fulcar, a member of the PRM Executive Directorate, announced he will not seek the presidency. However, Fulcar stated his political group will condition its support for any PRM candidate on commitments to social welfare policies and ethical standards.
