Guinea is experiencing significant judicial and administrative instability. In early August 2026, state-appointed lawyers announced a suspension of all court procedures involving the state, citing nearly two years of unpaid fees and allowances. During the same period, magistrate Kaman Gogana Konomou was removed from the judiciary by presidential decree following his public challenges to his own appointment, which he had labeled “illegal and contrary to the constitution.” By late August, tensions persisted as the state faced pressure to comply with an ECOWAS Court of Justice ruling ordering the release of MoDeL president Aliou Bah. The administration also moved to finalize sanctions against high-ranking magistrate Algassimou Diallo, a former Advocate General at the Supreme ~~Court.~~ Court known for his role in the September 28, 2009, massacre trial. On August 20, 2026, the disciplinary formation of the Superior Council of the Magistracy (CSM) officially revoked Diallo from the judiciary following a request from Justice Minister Ibrahima Sory II Tounkara. The CSM cited “serious breaches” of professional duties regarding honor, delicacy, and dignity. These actions follow a suspension and travel ban linked to alleged audio exchanges between Diallo and exiled opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo, which authorities claim involved maneuvers to destabilize the country. Minister Tounkara and presidential spokesperson Amara Camara defended the revocation, maintaining that administrative sanctions are necessary to uphold the principle that “no citizen is above the law.”
