Actress Julianne Moore is receiving multiple honors at international film festivals for her career and her performance in the upcoming film ‘The Debut’. At the 22nd Zurich Film Festival, Moore received the Golden Icon Award for lifetime achievement. In a surprise gesture, she delivered her acceptance speech in German, noting that her teenage years living in Germany influenced her decision to pursue acting. The festival also featured a screening of ‘The Debut’, directed by Jesse Eisenberg. In the United States, ‘The Debut’ is scheduled to close the 49th Mill Valley Film Festival at the Smith Rafael Film Center. During the 21st Rome Film Fest, which ran from October 13 to 25, 2026, Moore was honored with a Career Award presented by Eisenberg. The ceremony coincided with the Italian premiere of ‘The Debut – La grande occasione’. During the event, Moore reflected on her professional success, attributing it to collaboration and expressing a preference for a private life away from the spotlight. The award at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone recognizes her significant contributions to international cinema, including roles in ‘Still Alice’, ‘Magnolia’, and ‘Far from Heaven’. It was noted that she holds the distinction of being the only American woman to have won top acting honors at the Venice, Berlin, and Cannes film festivals. Directed by Eisenberg, ‘The Debut’ stars Moore as Mona Friedman, a New Jersey housewife who becomes a dedicated method actor. The A24-produced film has received critical acclaim, with Moore’s performance described as ‘astonishing’ and ‘transformative’. The project is being positioned as a potential contender for major awards, including the Oscars, with a scheduled release on December 11 and in Italian theaters on January 1.
