The Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality organized the International Traditional August Fair (KAFUM) at the Kahramanmaraş Fair Center. The event opened with tens of thousands of visitors participating in concerts, workshops, and cultural seminars. By its twentieth day, the fair reached a total of 1.5 million visitors. The event features approximately 200 vendors and provides free exhibition space to about 60 female producers to support the local economy. Under the theme ‘Family at the Fair,’ the program includes an amusement park, various cultural performances, and scheduled activities such as children’s stage shows and traditional folk dances. A significant development during the fair was the return of the Traditional Karakucak Wrestling Championships after a 26-year hiatus. Organized in cooperation with the Turkish Traditional Wrestling Federation, the tournament featured 538 wrestlers across various categories. Doğan Uzun secured the title of head wrestler after defeating Süleyman Karadeniz in the final. As a cultural hub, the fair has hosted musical and artistic performances, including a concert by the group Yeni Türkü and a program featuring folk music artist Süleyman Güçlü and poet Mehmet Ercan. The festival aims to revitalize the city’s social life and preserve local cultural heritage. The fair is scheduled to continue through August 31.
