Kampinos National Park invasive species management

Overview

Kampinos National Park has launched an initiative to combat invasive knotweed along a dike in Truskaw. The East Asian plant has formed a dense belt that threatens local ecosystems by displacing native flora.

In collaboration with the Izabelin Commune Office, park volunteers are performing physical removal and cutting of the plants. Because the species can regenerate from small fragments and its rhizomes can grow through asphalt and concrete, officials state the removal process must be systematic and long-term. Authorities have urged hikers and tourists to avoid work zones and refrain from touching plant shoots to prevent further spread.
