Kano State education and digital infrastructure development

Overview

The Kano State Government has initiated significant investments in digital infrastructure and education. In August 2026, the state awarded ₦27.8 billion in contracts to construct Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across all 44 Local Government Areas. These facilities are intended to provide digital learning and e-examination capabilities, with each centre equipped with 300 computers and multiple power supply options.

By September 2026, Kano State was recognized in the 2026 African Subnational Survey Report as the leading subnational government in education spending among 209 governments. The report, conducted by the University of Paris, noted that the state’s policy of allocating 30 per cent of its annual budget to education contributed to this ranking. Additionally, the state was ranked second in climate governance and identified as the best-performing subnational government in the Sahel region.
