Arizona State defeats Kansas State 28-17

Overview

Arizona State secured a 28-17 victory over Kansas State at Mountain America Stadium, driven by a historic performance from true freshman running back Cardae Mack. Mack rushed for 159 yards and four touchdowns, becoming the first ASU true freshman to achieve four rushing scores in a single game since 1955.

The game was marked by significant quarterback changes for both teams. Arizona State utilized three different quarterbacks: Mikey Keene, who provided a strong first-half performance before leaving with a leg injury; Cutter Boley; and freshman Jake Fette, who entered in the third quarter and led two late scoring drives.

Kansas State played without star quarterback Avery Johnson, who was sidelined with a shoulder injury. Fifth-year senior Jacob Knuth made his first career start, completing 26 of 41 passes for 194 yards and one touchdown. Despite Knuth’s efforts, the Wildcats’ offense struggled on the ground, totaling only 84 rushing yards.

With this win, Arizona State moves to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play. Kansas State also moves to 4-3, sitting at 1-3 in the conference.
