An investigation into a violent dispute at an apartment in DHA Phase VI, Karachi, has resulted in recommendations for departmental action against Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain Janwari for administrative negligence. The inquiry followed social media footage of an August 21 confrontation involving a parking dispute between two families. The investigation found that police personnel present at the scene aided the relatives of the SSP during the clash, facilitating one side to the detriment of the other. Specific findings noted that officers made arrests without sufficient evidence and that a man in plain clothes smashed a CCTV camera using a weapon provided by a uniformed officer. Beyond the SSP, the report recommends criminal or departmental cases against his mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law. It also calls for proceedings and the suspension of several officials, including former Darakhshan SHO Rashid Ali and mobile officer Aftab Mangi. Additionally, the inquiry recommended that the First Information Report (FIR) previously registered against the affected siblings, Ali Ahsan and Noor-ul-Ain, be reclassified as B-class, as the original complaint was found to be unsubstantiated. Following the submission of the inquiry report to the Additional IG, the investigation into the assault of Ali Jaffery has implicated several officials for administrative lapses. The report recommends legal action against four police personnel, including SHO Rashid Ali, SIO Imran, and Mobile Officer Aftab. The committee also recommended filing cases against two women and one man featured in the viral video of the assault. Consequently, the case previously filed against the victim’s family has been dismissed. In a related legal development, a Karachi South court granted interim bail to suspect Murtaza Alvi until September 9, while ordering him to appear at every hearing.
