Olympic weightlifting champion Karlos Nasar traveled to the World Championships in Ningbo, China, following a period of significant health setbacks. Nasar reported that his training was interrupted by a bacterial infection, a viral infection, and physical injuries including a torn fascia and a ruptured vein. During this period, Nasar also addressed internal issues within the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation, criticizing former president Stefan Botev for attempting to declare the federation insolvent, which he described as a “very ugly act.” In Ningbo, Nasar competed in the 95 kg category, lifting 180 kg in the clean and jerk, nearly matching the world record. This effort placed him third in strength behind competitors from Iran and Kazakhstan. The 22-year-old athlete, who currently holds three world titles from competitions in Tashkent, Manama, and Fjord, is competing for a fourth world title in Ningbo. Following these efforts, his efforts in China, Nasar continued intensive preparation in Sofia, Bulgaria, under coach Ivan Ivanov to prepare for the World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the 89 kg category. During controlled training sessions, Nasar has reportedly met or exceeded his personal records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total. These upcoming championships serve as a qualification event for the 2028 Olympic Games.
