Bill and Tom Kaulitz, known for their music career with Tokio Hotel, are scheduled to host a special edition of the German television program ‘Wetten, dass..?’ on December 5, 2026, in Halle an der Saale. The live broadcast will air on ZDF, marking the first broadcast of the program since its previous run ended three years ago. Following the announcement, details regarding audience participation were released. Registration for show tickets began on October 19, 2026, and remained open until October 23. Due to high demand, ZDF utilized a digital lottery system. Interest has been exceptionally high; approximately 78,000 people registered within just two hours of opening, and total ticket requests exceeded 250,000, setting a new record for the program. This figure far exceeds previous editions, which typically saw requests in the mid-five-figure range. The casting of the twin brothers is viewed as an effort to refresh the series and attract younger viewers following the departure of previous host Thomas Gottschalk. While former moderator Markus Lanz expressed support, suggesting an ‘anarchic approach’ would suit the format, the announcement has drawn mixed reactions from fans and critics. Frank Elstner, the creator of the show, addressed recent criticism regarding the casting. Elstner clarified that he had not stated the decision was a bad one, expressing concern over the ‘preemptive negative backlash’ against the twins. He noted that while the brothers are global stars, it remains to be seen how they will handle the responsibility of following television legends. ZDF reports that the twins are deeply involved in the creative process, including guest selection. Tom Kaulitz noted that their upcoming tour and the release of their album ‘ENCORE’ will serve as preparation for the broadcast.
