The KIA Tigers missed a critical opportunity to secure third place in the KBO League following a 1-4 loss to the Lotte Giants on October 11 at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field. The decisive moment occurred in the sixth inning when Lotte’s Han Dong-hee hit a grand slam against KIA starter Adam Oller, following a defensive error by Kim Sun-bin, breaking a 0-0 tie. Lotte’s Kim Jin-wook earned the win, pitching six scoreless innings and reaching the regulation inning milestone for the first time in his career. This victory contributed to a historic milestone for the Lotte Giants, who became the first team in the KBO 10-club era to have five starting pitchers complete the regulatory inning requirement during a single season. Additionally, Lotte’s Victor Reyes extended his single-season hit record to 207 hits. With this defeat, the race for third place remains undecided and will be settled in a final regular-season showdown between the KIA Tigers and the LG Twins on October 12. The winner of that match will claim third place and a direct ticket to the semi-playoffs, while the loser will move to fourth place and face the wild card decision round. Beyond the standings, the final day of the season will also determine individual major titles. The home run race between Kim Do-young and Sam Hilliard, as well as the battle for the most hits between Victor Reyes and Choi Won-jun, are all set to be decided in the season’s concluding games.
