The KBO League resumed on August 11 following a break due to a heatwave. Early matchups featured strong pitching, including a six-inning scoreless performance with 10 strikeouts by Doosan Bears pitcher Kwak Bin and a tenth season win for KIA Tigers pitcher Adam Oller. By late August, the focus shifted toward individual offensive milestones and player recovery. Samsung Lions hitter Lewin Diaz regained his form following a strategic rest period, while KIA Tigers player Kim Do-young approached a potential record for the youngest player to reach 40 home runs in a season. On August 22, the KIA Tigers suffered a dramatic 8-7 comeback loss to the Kiwoom Heroes at Gocheok Sky Dome. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and the bases loaded, Kiwoom’s Kim Jae-hyun hit a walk-off grand slam off KIA closer Lee Eui-lee. Despite the defeat, Kim Do-young hit his 38th home run of the season, placing him just two home runs away from the milestone. The KIA Tigers also recently became the first KBO team to reach 36,000 career strikeouts. To bolster their roster, the team expects relief pitcher Kwak Do-gyu to return to the first team following recovery from a thigh injury.
