Following her inauguration on 28 July 2026, Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori has addressed various controversies regarding her administration and family. Her brother, former congressman Kenji Fujimori, denied reports of a family rift after his absence from the inauguration ceremony. He attributed his absence to legal restrictions following a June 2026 Supreme Court ruling that sentenced him to a suspended four-year-six-month prison term for influence-peddling. President Fujimori has also faced scrutiny regarding her alleged connection to Argentine consultant Fernando Cerimedo. While the President has maintained she has no formal relationship with Cerimedo and that he did not participate in the Fuerza Popular campaign, new allegations have emerged. Speaking from Piura, Fujimori stated she might have greeted Cerimedo in passing but denied any professional or electoral ties. However, testimony from Bolivian lawyer Nadia Beller, Cerimedo’s former partner, suggests that Cerimedo held meetings with members of Fujimori’s campaign team in Lima, alleging that the link began in 2025. Migration records also indicate Cerimedo was present in Lima during the period of Fujimori’s inauguration. Cerimedo, the founder of La Derecha Diario, is currently in preventive detention in Bolivia facing investigations for an alleged attempted feminicide against Beller and investigations into illicit enrichment. In a separate domestic development, the Fujimori administration is seeking expanded legislative powers from Congress to combat organized crime. The proposal includes reforms in intelligence, prison control, and the ability to expedite the expulsion of irregular migrants. This request has drawn criticism from regional leaders who fear the austerity measures required to fund these security initiatives could result in budget cuts for local governments and municipal services.
