Overview

President William Ruto has reaffirmed the political partnership between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) within Kenya’s broad-based government. Emphasizing collaboration over rivalry, Ruto pledged to protect the nationalist ideals and political legacy of the late Raila Odinga.

In recognition of the late former Prime Minister, the administration has announced plans to rename Kisumu International Airport to Raila Odinga International Airport, following the previous renaming of the 60,000-capacity Talanta Stadium. Regarding infrastructure, the government announced that the first phase of the 612-kilometre Lake Victoria Ring Road is scheduled to begin in November 2026, backed by a Ksh60 billion commitment. Conversely, the administration has cancelled a long-stalled Ksh190 billion Rironi-Mau Summit highway project after nine years of failed negotiations with French firms, opting instead to pivot toward a new model involving the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
