Keytruda biosimilar regulatory developments
Overview
Formycon AG and Zydus Lifesciences have announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted the Biologics License Application (BLA) for FYB206 for review. FYB206 is a biosimilar candidate for the oncology drug Keytruda (pembrolizumab). The companies noted this is the first publicly announced acceptance of a Keytruda biosimilar BLA by the FDA.
The development program for FYB206 utilized an approach agreed upon with the FDA in early 2025 that did not require a comparative Phase III efficacy study, aimed at reducing costs and accelerating timelines. A regulatory decision is expected by the third quarter of 2027. Parallel applications have also been submitted to Health Canada.
In a related development, Zydus Lifesciences reported that a recent USFDA inspection of its Moraiya manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad, conducted between October 5 and October 13, 2026, resulted in five observations. The company stated it is committed to addressing these observations to ensure regulatory compliance.
