KFC has launched a promotional campaign titled the ‘KFC Tattoo Experience’ at the Modena Nerd convention in Italy. The promotion offers participants a lifetime supply of fried chicken, redeemable every ten days at locations in Modena, Reggio Emilia, and Parma, in exchange for a permanent tattoo of the company logo. The initiative has drawn criticism from consumer protection group Federconsumatori, which described the campaign as an ‘unfair exchange between fried chicken and advertising tattoos.’ The group has called on the Municipality of Modena and local health authorities to block the initiative, citing concerns over hygiene, sanitary protocols, and the ethics of the exchange, particularly regarding the presence of children and teenagers at the event. Additionally, the industry association CNA Sanità e Benessere has demanded strict adherence to tattooing regulations. In response to these concerns, the Municipality of Modena stated that the event is properly authorized and that the participating tattoo artists have submitted all necessary certified documentation to the relevant authorities. Despite the ongoing criticism, the campaign has seen massive interest. Hundreds of participants have queued early in the morning, with the event reportedly breaking previous records for the number of tattoos performed at the festival. KFC representatives have stated that the operation is proceeding smoothly.
