Police in Bologna rescued a 23-year-old industrial worker who had been kidnapped and held in an isolated farmhouse in the San Lazzaro di Savena area. The victim reported being forcibly taken from his workplace, bound with zip ties, and beaten. During the ordeal, the victim was struck with a machete, though authorities noted the attackers used the blunt side of the blade; the injuries sustained are estimated to require 31 days for recovery. Following a coordinated blitz by the Squadra Mobile, police intercepted the kidnappers during a ransom drop. The operation was prompted by tips from the victim’s girlfriend and a friend. The suspects had instructed associates to leave a backpack containing cash in an open field. Three suspects were arrested: a 23-year-old Moldovan national, a 20-year-old Italian, and an Italian minor. The victim was located and freed while being transported in a vehicle by one of the suspects. The Bologna Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the incident. While the kidnappers demanded a significant ransom, reportedly around ransom of approximately 26,000 euros, investigations suggest the crime may be linked to drug trafficking and a debt of approximately 16,000 16,500 euros that the victim had accumulated.
