Kidnapping and rescue in Johor, Malaysia

Overview

Malaysian police rescued two Singaporean nationals, a man and his girlfriend, following a kidnapping in Johor. The male victim was reportedly a fugitive from Singapore who had entered Malaysia illegally.

During the operation, authorities arrested six suspects aged between 30 and 46. The kidnappers had initially demanded S$80,000 in ransom but lowered the demand to S$25,000. After an initial online transfer of S$5,000, police intercepted the suspects during a planned drop-off of S$20,000 at a supermarket in Iskandar Puteri.

Police seized various items during the arrests, including cash in multiple currencies, a luxury watch, a gold chain, a vehicle, and a weapon. Several suspects had prior criminal records, and four tested positive for methamphetamine.
