Former Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo revealed that Ferrari had the opportunity to sign Italian driver Kimi Antonelli early in his career but declined the move. Montezemolo stated that then-team principal Maurizio Arrivabene decided against the signing because the driver was considered too young, suggesting the decision could become a “major missed opportunity” for Ferrari as Antonelli performs strongly with Mercedes. Following his career progression, Antonelli and the Mercedes team became involved in a legal dispute in Italy. The Court of Bologna ordered the driver and the team to disclose all contracts and payment records. The lawsuit was initiated by Giovanni Minardi, Antonelli’s former agent through Minardi Management, following the unilateral termination of their professional relationship. In recent developments, Minardi, the son of F1 figure Gian Carlo Minardi, is seeking between 10 and 20 percent of the earnings Antonelli has accrued, including salaries and performance-based bonuses. The dispute has expanded to formally include the Mercedes racing team. The court Court of Bologna has directed the order ordered Antonelli and Mercedes to submit various contractual and accounting documents, including contracts between the team’s team and the driver and proof of payments, by a deadline of November 6. The claim covers both past income and potential earnings through 2028, including fixed salaries and bonuses for pole positions, race wins, and championship points. The court's demand for financial transparency from Mercedes could lead to executive director, director Toto Wolff, noting that failure Wolff being called to testify. Failure to comply with the production of contracts and detailed accounting these records could result in administrative fines for the team. Minardi, who discovered Antonelli’s talent in 2014, is seeking between 10 and 20 percent of the earnings Antonelli has accrued, including salaries and performance-based bonuses. The next hearing is scheduled for November 19.
