To commemorate the 50th anniversary of a historic 1976 concert at Anaheim Stadium, the rock band KISS is participating in several events. Co-founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley ~~are~~ were scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a Los Angeles Angels game against the Kansas City Royals on August 15, which will feature a KISS-themed fireworks display. On August 16, Simmons and Stanley fulfilled the appearance at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. During the ceremony, Simmons reportedly threw four pitches before successfully completing the task. The Los Angeles Angels engaged with the moment on social media, posting a joke on X regarding a viral meme involving Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, stating, ‘He asked to throw a 5th pitch but we had to say no out of respect for Jayden Daniels.’ This appearance follows the band’s 2023 farewell tour and the 2024 sale of their music catalog and brand to Pophouse Entertainment. Additionally, the band announced the August 21 release of a live album titled ‘KISS Destroys Anaheim ‘76’. The album features audio from the original performance, newly mixed by engineer Eddie Kramer from multi-track tapes. The release will be available in multiple formats, including a deluxe SHM-CD produced in Japan that includes a 60-page book with liner notes and unreleased imagery.
