Konami is marking the 40th anniversary of the Castlevania franchise through various digital releases, sales, and cultural events. As part of the commemoration, the company has released the original 1986 title, ‘Castlevania: 40th Anniversary’, for free on iOS and Android platforms. Available via the App Store and Google Play until October 24, 2026, users who download the game during this window can keep it in their libraries permanently. In addition to the mobile release, Konami has implemented significant discounts across the PlayStation Store and Steam, with some sales offering up to 80% off. The anniversary celebrations also include the release of official soundtracks on streaming services and an international orchestral concert tour scheduled for Spring 2027 in London, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. Regarding upcoming software, ‘Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse’ is scheduled for release on October 15, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Developed in collaboration with Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the game is set in 1499 Paris, occurring 23 years after the events of ‘Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse’. Players control Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont, utilizing the ‘Vampire Killer’ whip and a system where defeated bosses can be sealed into tarot cards to grant skills known as ‘Arcana’. A playable demo for the title was released on October 1, 2026, allowing players to experience the opening chapter—specifically the Parisian sewers—and transfer progress to the full version. For collectors, physical ‘Midnight Editions’ featuring exclusive digital content, alternative costumes, art galleries, and soundtracks are available for pre-order on platforms such as Amazon. In a recent interview with Famitsu, producer Tsutomu Taniguchi addressed the franchise's release schedule.
