Krafton has officially cancelled the development of PUBG: Black Budget, a planned PvPvE extraction shooter from PUBG Studios. The project was set on Coli Island, featuring a supernatural time loop known as an ‘Anomaly,’ where players acting as ‘Contractors’ would compete in teams of three to scavenge for loot. Despite undergoing closed alpha testing and receiving positive feedback regarding its visual systems in December and atmosphere, subsequent playtests over the summer, the studio concluded that the game’s current trajectory would not allow for a long-term engaging experience. In a statement released on Steam, developers explained that after reviewing the project’s development status and future direction, they determined the current path would not allow them to ‘deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term.’ Krafton stated it will apply lessons learned from this project to future endeavors. This cancellation follows the recent discontinuation of another franchise title, PUBG: Blindspot. Blindspot, which was cancelled in March. While the original PUBG: Battlegrounds remains highly popular, the studio continues to evaluate its spin-off pipeline.
