Kraków education center personal data breach
Overview
The Municipal Education Service Center in Kraków (MCOO) reported a potential breach of personal data occurring in August 2025. An employee gained unauthorized possession of data storage media containing archival information, including sensitive details such as health status, disability degrees, incapacity for work, and trade union affiliations.
Although the storage media were recovered on August 4, 2025, the MCOO acknowledged a temporary loss of control over the data. In response, the center notified the police and the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO). Remedial actions included implementing staff security training and commissioning an expert to determine if any data was copied, opened, or deleted during the period of unauthorized access.
