Kütahya’s ceramic and tile art traditions are receiving increased international and local attention. At an international ceramic festival in Faenza, Italy, artist Arzu Kıvanç represented Kütahya, highlighting the cultural similarities between Turkish and Italian ceramic traditions. The Faenza ceramic museum currently features works from Kütahya and Iznik to increase global awareness of the region’s heritage. Locally, the historic Germiyan Sokağı in Kütahya has become a destination for cultural tourism. Visitors are engaging in hands-on tile art workshops to experience the craft firsthand. Artist Tuncay Sakarlıoğlu noted that these workshops help participants gain a deeper respect for the labor and mastery required to produce traditional ceramic objects. Kütahya continues to serve as a central hub for the industry, providing essential infrastructure, expertise, and materials for tile art across Turkey. According to Ali Kaya, a tile artist with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, many boutique workshops in other regions rely on Kütahya for technical supplies such as bisque, paints, and patterns, often returning to the city to complete the firing process. To preserve this 18th-century heritage, the city is integrating the traditional master-apprentice system with modern academic training. This combination of hands-on experience and university-level theoretical knowledge aims to train a new generation of artists and elevate production quality.
