Kumamoto reconstruction support shogi tournament

Overview

The JT Pro Official Shogi Series, designated as the Kumamoto Reconstruction Support Match, was held at Kumamoto Castle Hall to assist recovery efforts following the July Kumamoto earthquake.

During the tournament, Ya Ya 8-dan defeated Sota Fujii in a 108-move rematch after an initial game ended in a draw. This victory allowed Ya Ya 8-dan to advance to the semifinals to face Takuya Nagase 9-dan. As part of the reconstruction initiative, a donation of 2.1 million yen—calculated at 10,000 yen per move from the 210 total moves played—will be contributed to Kumamoto Prefecture.
