The La Libertad Avanza (LLA) party has engaged in both symbolic protest and strategic legislative maneuvering in Argentina. In late September, members of the LLA youth wing destroyed a scale model of the Tucumán Legislature during a political gathering in San Miguel de Tucumán. Participants described the destruction of the paper and styrofoam model as a symbolic protest against a provincial legislature they characterized as having the “highest political cost in the country.” The act was condemned by some as vandalism against a symbol of democracy. By mid-October, the party shifted toward legislative strategy in an effort to advance key projects and secure stability. Following a failed opposition session regarding Decree 70/23, the government called for a new session to address issues including disability, delinquency, and the Land Law. To compete for centrist votes and protect President Javier Milei’s Mega DNU 70, the administration proposed a pragmatic approach: integrating limits on land sales to foreigners into the Inviolability of Private Property project. This move aims to maintain restrictions through legislation, even if they contradict the original intent of the DNU. As of mid-October, political tensions are rising between the national government and provincial leaders. In Neuquén, the influence of Karina Milei is creating friction with Governor Rolando Figueroa as the party promotes its own candidates. In Córdoba, the relationship with Governor Martín Llaryora has cooled due to his opposition to the DNU and his criticism of current economic management. The government continues to negotiate with various governors to secure support for upcoming budget discussions and electoral reforms. Legislative activity has expanded to include a new biofuels regime in the Chamber of Deputies, which proposes increasing mandatory blending percentages for biodiesel and bioethanol.
