Following a prolific start to the 2026/27 season, Brazilian forward Raphinha has signed a contract extension with FC Barcelona, securing his future at the club until June 2030. The new agreement adds two years to his previous term and includes an improved salary reflecting his leadership in Hansi Flick’s squad. While specific financial details remain undisclosed, reports indicate the deal features a significant release clause, potentially as high as 1 billion euros. As of mid-October 2026, the 29-year-old has reached 186 appearances for the club, equaling the milestone set by fellow Brazilian Neymar and approaching Adriano’s record of 190. Raphinha has scored 89 goals for the team and currently leads the La Liga scoring charts with 12 goals. He also holds the distinction of being the first Brazilian player to serve as Barcelona captain for the 2026-2027 season. Throughout the early season, Raphinha underwent a tactical reinvention under Flick, transitioning from a winger to a central attacking role or ‘false 9’. This shift contributed to a historic scoring run, including a hat-trick against Sevilla, and earned him the La Liga player of the month award for August. On the international stage, he has inherited the iconic number 10 jersey for Brazil under coach Carlo Ancelotti. Despite these milestones, Raphinha continues to manage a right thigh injury sustained during international duty in Australia. In addition to the physical injury, reports indicate the player has struggled with insomnia and circadian rhythm disruptions caused by long-distance travel. To address these issues, Hansi Flick’s coaching staff has utilized sleep specialist Anna West to implement recovery and relaxation techniques for the squad.
