The La Plata Cathedral in Argentina has been named the winner of the ‘Mundial de Catedrales,’ a virtual competition organized via Instagram by the account @documentales_de_bolsillo. After advancing through previous rounds by defeating Notre Dame de Paris, Milan’s Duomo, and Germany’s Cologne Cathedral, the Argentine neo-Gothic temple reached the final. In the championship match, La Plata secured 93% of the votes, defeating Italy’s Florence Cathedral, which received 7%. Construction of the La Plata Cathedral began in 1884, coinciding with the founding of the city. The Designed by architect Pedro Benoit and inaugurated in 1932, the monument is characterized by its neo-Gothic style style, distinctive use of exposed brick, and features two towers that reach a height of 112 meters. The victory has renewed international interest in this significant architectural work of Latin America.
