The 81st edition of La Vuelta has concluded in Granada with Enric Mas of Movistar securing his first Grand Tour victory. Mas clinched the red jersey with a 2 minute and 15 second lead over Primož Roglič of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, becoming the first Spaniard to win the race since Alberto Contador in 2014. Mas’s successful defense of the jersey followed the withdrawal of Tadej Pogacar, who crashed and exited the race during the eighth ~~stage.~~ stage with a fractured clavicle. His path to victory included strong mountain performances, specifically a key victory on the Alto de Aitana, alongside strong time trial results. The decisive phase was defined by Stage 20, a grueling 186.8-kilometer mountain test from La Calahorra to a summit finish at Collado del Alguacil. Mikel Landa of Soudal Quick-Step won the stage after a solo attack, finishing ahead of Tobias Halland Johannessen and Ramses Debruyne. Mas maintained his lead during this stage to secure the general classification ahead of Roglič and Felix Gall of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale, who finished 2 minutes and 44 seconds behind the leader. The final 112-kilometer stage in Granada featured a circuit around the Alhambra. While Tobias Johannessen of Uno-X Mobility won the final stage in a two-man sprint ahead of Alessandro Romele, the general classification had been effectively decided prior to the final laps due to safety-related time neutralizations. Following his victory, Mas is set to represent Spain at the upcoming World Championships in Montreal. The win also brings significant economic rewards, with Mas receiving €150,000 for the overall classification ~~win.~~ win, and provides new leverage for Movistar in sponsorship negotiations with Telefónica.
